Do you have any favorite beginner sock patterns? Not a new knitter, but new to socks…
How do you boldly use art yarns in ordinary patterns? They are usually a limited supply and often not suited for a main part of a garment anyway, but I choke up when trying to figure out how to incorporate them into a larger project. And there are only so many scarves, hats, etc. you can make with them.
I second Celeste’s question, and would like to add a request for recommendations about adding stripes or color accents in a pattern which doesn’t specifically call for any, perhaps to use up leftovers from other projects of one of those mini skeins which seem to be everywhere.
Also, how do you tell how much yarn you will use in a project? For example, if I have 440 yards of yarn, and I cast on 30 stitches, and my gauge is X stitches by Y rows over 4 inches, how long can I expect my scarf to be?
I’D like to learn more about spinning. I’m a kind of new spinner using a wheel. How do you divide your fiber so that you have relatively the same amount on your bobbins to ply them together. I’ve been spinning it all onto one bobbin, winding it into a cake and try to ply using the inside and outside ends of the yarn. It does not work well. I’d love to learn more about plying!
